When answering the question what is it that adjuncts really want, it is respect in the form of a job that pays a wage which might allow them to rent an apartment in a decent neighborhood, buy a car that is less than ten years old, be able to have insurance for themselves and their families, and save enough money so that when they retire they won’t be eating cat food in a downtown residence hotel. One might also add that they’d like to believe that they would be rewarded for their hard work by being given real job security, a real chance of advancement into a full-time position, and not feel resented for speaking their minds.
